COVID-19 Update: China's Ongoing Economic and Political Developments
We are all working hard to help our clients navigate the complex consequences of the pandemic. In addition to our core investment team, we draw upon a number of outside specialists to inform our perspective on the markets. One of these specialists is Andy Rothman, an Investment Strategist at Matthews Asia, an Asia-focused investment fund manager responsible for over $20 billion in assets. Andy focuses on China, drawing on his prior career in the Foreign Service, where he was head of macroeconomics and domestic policy in the US Embassy in Beijing.
In a recent conversation, Andy discussed the origins of the virus in China, its effect on the Chinese economy, and how China is recovering after apparently containing the outbreak. The conversation was informed by questions and thoughts from the entire ChoateIA team, and each of us looks forward to leading conversations with some of our other managers in future podcasts. As a team, we spend significant time talking to both our outside managers and other economic and investment specialists, and we think sharing some of those conversations with clients might be helpful.
All of us at ChoateIA believe that China’s experience can be instructive for other major economies, including the United States. You can listen to a recording of our conversation by clicking the link below. We hope you find it interesting.
